Fun with Windows Shortcut keys

Hey all,  I was just asked by someone how to send a CTRL-ATL-DEL to a remote session using RDP and I thought I’d share some short cut keys with you all….Now keep in mind this only applies to the system you connect with RDP to..Not any subsequent session

 

·         CTRL+ALT+END: Open the Microsoft Windows NT Security dialog box (CTRL+ALT+DEL)

·         ALT+PAGE UP: Switch between programs from left to right (CTRL+PAGE UP)

·         ALT+PAGE DOWN: Switch between programs from right to left (CTRL+PAGE DOWN)

·         ALT+INSERT: Cycle through the programs in most recently used order (ALT+TAB)

·         ALT+HOME: Display the Start menu (CTRL+ESC)

·         CTRL+ALT+BREAK: Switch the client computer between a window and a full screen

·         ALT+DELETE: Display the Windows menu

·         CTRL+ALT+Minus sign (-): Place a snapshot of the entire client window area on the Terminal server clipboard and provide the same functionality as pressing ALT+PRINT SCREEN on a local computer (ALT+PRT SC)

·         CTRL+ALT+Plus sign (+): Place a snapshot of the active window in the client on the Terminal server clipboard and provide the same functionality as pressing PRINT SCREEN on a local computer (PRT SC)

 

This leads me to some oldies but goodies I keep in my arsenal as well not so much for remote use but still I sometimes forget or take for granted that people don’t already know some of or all of these.

 

·         Windows Logo+R: Run dialog box

·         Windows Logo+M: Minimize all

·         SHIFT+Windows Logo+M: Undo minimize all

·         Windows Logo+E: Windows Explorer

·         Windows Logo+F: Find files or folders

·         Windows Logo+D: Minimizes all open windows and displays the desktop

·         CTRL+Windows Logo+F: Find computer

·         CTRL+Windows Logo+TAB: Moves focus from Start, to the Quick Launch toolbar, to the system tray (use RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW to move focus to items on the Quick Launch toolbar and the system tray)

·         Windows Logo+TAB: Cycle through taskbar buttons

·         Windows Logo+Break: System Properties dialog box

 

And finally to help…especially when writing instructions and you need an easy way to tell someone to launch…say “Add/Remove Programs” for example.. Open the windows Run Command form the Start menu and type one of the following to launch It’s corresponding applet….(There are obviously others….but I left out things like the game controllers.. J )
